No two personal trainers are alike. With different philosophies, techniques and professional backgrounds, you have to find a personal trainer that fits best with you. Take for instance, 101 Fitness’ Gerald Ulysse. In addition to his 16 years as a personal trainer, Gerald has been a group training instructor for six, leading classes in kickboxing and boot camp at New York Sports Club and local recreational facilities is Fairfield County.

Gerald is certified as a personal trainer and in the areas of kickboxing and group exercise by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). In addition, he is American Red Cross trained and certified in CPR and AED. Currently, Gerald is working towards earning his associate’s degree in exercise science at Norwalk Community College in Fairfield County.

It is your personal trainers experience and professionalism that signifies him or her as a quality trainer. But to make sure you’ve made the correct choice, here are a few other things that will help assure you that you’ve found a legitimate personal trainer:

Before anything your personal trainer should evaluate your current physical condition and follow up with a discussion about your goals.

Your personal trainer should provide you with a balanced program that incorporates cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and flexibility exercises.

Your personal trainer should always keep a close eye on you, providing you with pointers along the way.

Your personal trainer should help you reassess your goals throughout the program.

Your personal trainer should listen to you as this is a partnership.

For those of you in Fairfield County, have you worked with a personal trainer before? If not, what are some other expectations you would have if working with one?
